A trip to northern Europe

First of all

Denmark, which borders Germany, is a small country in the north. Denmark is a country with a long and interesting history, it is a kingdom that has been involved in many historical movements over the years. On top of that, many kingdoms close to Denmark have strategically tried to invade the country. The other neighbor is Sweden, which is somewhat reminiscent of Denmark, for example with things like architecture and social behaviors. Both countries are very proud of their traditions and highly value keeping in touch with the old traditions.

The family situation is one of the valuable things that Danes and Swedes cherish. But they like to save it for the special events that happen throughout the year. It can be family weekends or holidays where you have time to spend time together. Because Danes work a lot and in fact it is a big part of daily life in Denmark, to keep a busy life.

Danish architecture and lifestyle

When I visited Denmark, I saw a lot of interesting things and a lot of old cities all over the country, with a romantic touch. One of the things I noticed the most were the beautiful houses in the small towns around the islands. It’s very easy to notice and anyone who has ever been to Denmark will know what I mean. I traveled from Germany and drove my motorbike to a small coastal town in the northeast of the small island called Fyn. When I got to Kerteminde I felt very encouraged, because I could really feel the sensation of being surrounded by water. The beach went with a long coastal beach area from one place to another. It was a summer vacation or rather a vacation for me, so I would go swimming in the beautiful ocean every day.

My first time at a bed and breakfast.

I slept at the Samlingsstuens bed and breakfast, which was located in the city center of the small town. He lived in a listed building, in a courtyard called “Andreasens købmandsgaard”. Here they had nice rooms with beautiful flowers on the side table next to my bed, and a nice clean room, which I valued very much.

My schedule told me to stay in Kerteminde for only a few days, but actually I ended up staying there for 5 days. I am a bit of an outdoorsman myself so I used to spend most of my time wandering the beaches and large forests that were in the area.

The Vikings of Denmark

I also went to the Viking museum, which was about 10 km from Samlingsstuen. He had a meeting of modern Vikings, going on. I learned a lot about Danish history and culture that day and even tried real Viking food.

Basically this place was a very well proven place to go with a family, there were lots of things for the kids to do and learn. But even going there alone, it was really nice.

At the end

I want to share a word that I came across many times during my stay in Denmark. It’s called “hygge” and it’s a unique description of, say, a family together or maybe another way of saying “chill out.” The word is especially linked to Denmark, and it describes very well what the Danes are like.

my regards
