Are Wilson Staff Ci9 Irons For You?

The Wilson Staff Ci9 Irons are the third update to the award-winning Ci, or Control Iron, and the new design offers a refreshing and highly playable medium iron, providing excellent playability and performance. The new Ci9 iron has a traditional medium-sized head design that will appeal to golfers of all skill levels. The new head shape will give you a quick boost of confidence, with its slimmer top line and slightly progressive offset.

This new griddle is made from 431 mild stainless steel and features a new “Soft Response” insert, which runs the length of the back cavity. This new insert gives the player a satisfying sound on impact and also provides a more solid feel, even with off-center hits. The Wilson Staff Ci9 irons also feature a hidden exoskeleton in the rear cavity, allowing Wilson to push the weight towards the heel and toe, creating a higher moment of inertia (MOI). This weight distribution provides more stability and also keeps the center of gravity directly behind the sweet spot, allowing for more power. The new Ci9 irons are available with Aldila VS graphite shafts, or with the new FST Step-Less steel shafts that are lightweight and designed with a stepless barrel for more consistency and feel. Ci9 irons also have modified U-grooves, meeting USGA and R&A specifications.

Some features of the Wilson Staff Ci9 irons:

  • Soft response: Smooth 431 stainless steel and one-piece Soft Response insert for solid sound and feel
  • Exoskeleton: The exoskeleton in the rear cavity puts more weight on the heel and toe for greater stability and a higher ME
  • Cross Style: The new head shape provides elements designed for the Tour player, but will appeal to players of all skill levels.
  • Groove compliance: Modified U-grooves take the limits to the maximum required by the USGA and R&A

The new Wilson Staff Ci9 will fall under what Wilson calls the C-style category player. The goal was to develop an iron that would meet cross styles without affecting club playability, and the company is confident that this third generation of its irons control, the Ci9, will deliver it.
