Alligators vs. Hurricanes Through the Eyes of a Brooklyn Girl

Growing up in Brooklyn, I watched a lot of baseball with my dad. It wasn’t until I was 13 that I realized that the last line of the national anthem was not playball. So now I’m a beginner soccer fan. The phrase “Go Gators” sounds a little different with a Brooklyn accent, but it still means supporting one of the greatest football programs in history.

I started my journey in the world of soccer by buying Gator pink gear. I’m going to learn what the shotgun and the pocket are, but for now I’m rooting for quarterback Tim Tebow. ESPN isn’t part of my limited cable package, so I had to listen to the game on the radio, which required my full attention. I learned that when Mic Hubert said “OMG!” something significant happened. I don’t know who Mr. Heisman is or why we want the trophy from him, but I understand it’s a good thing.

Strictly from a new football fan’s point of view, the game seemed to be off to a slow start for the Gators. None of the sports talk during the week said anything about a slow start, but the final score seemed to match the predictions of a pair of Gainesville pigskins. Limited knowledge does not stop me from feeling tremendous pride in the Gators, I am proud to be a part of the Gator Nation.

The Gators – Hurricanes rivalry has a long history and today the Gators prevailed
