Big dreams and Big Data

1.1 Putting your head in the game

Go back in time to the 90s and you will find that computers almost never handle data of great scope and size. Back then, a 40MB hard drive was considered a luxury. As we advance in the field of computing by leaps and bounds, we find ourselves becoming more and more dependent on it. Today’s computers can store more than one terabyte of data, but today’s industries generate multiple terabytes of data in a short time. Today’s companies, whether in IT or elsewhere, handle large amounts of data. Consider Facebook: it generates a staggering 105 TB of data every 30 minutes. To process such an immense amount of data and obtain valuable information, you need to know what Big Data is all about.

1.2 Put your foot in the door

Whether you are new to the IT industry or a veteran, time after time, chances are you have come across the words “Big Data” as it is something that is in high demand around the world. No company wants to make unprofitable investments, and that’s where data analysts come in. Data analysts play the crucial role of analyzing numbers and figures gleaned from data to help the business make calculated decisions about various marketing strategies.

How can you be part of this great digital trend? All that is required is to pass an exam. It’s simple as long as you have the passion and training for it, although these exams are not to be taken lightly as they take time and money to try.

1.3 Way up in the clouds

Cloudera is one of the distinguishing names that people always come across when talking about Big Data because it was the first company to successfully build a business around the professional deployment of Hadoop. Cloudera provides certification divided into two different types. First is the Cloudera Certified Professional, which is the most advanced course they offer. The other is the Cloudera Certified Associate that vouches for the candidate’s foundational skills.

1.4 There is always another way

Certify your skills and accelerate your career. Another tech industry giant, IBM, also has certification programs to demonstrate its expertise in related IBM technologies. For Big Data, IBM has established two separate tests: Big Data Engineer and Big Data Architect. Both exams can be taken online and consist of multiple-choice questions through which they assess the depth of knowledge and competence of the candidate in each of the related areas.

Next is MongoDB. This product is something that most veterans in the IT field know about. For newcomers, MongoDB is a free, open source, cross-platform document-oriented database program. Like all other big-name industries in the industry, the certification provided by MongoDB carries some weight.
