Marble floors: an elegant option

All natural stone floors exhibit different styles and characteristics. However, all of them are beautiful and elegant in their own way. Travertine is very common and offers minimalist designs, limestone is the choice of property developers, slate is the choice of people looking for a rustic look and distinctive colors. The list goes on with granite, quartz, basalt, etc.

Marble is one of the most durable of all natural stone products. It can be used in commercial applications and high traffic areas without any problem. As people get to know more about marble, the most common marble tiles that are commercially available are worth mentioning below:

1) Crema Marfil Marble: World renowned Spanish marble is commonly known as Creme Marble. Depending on the selection, Crema Marfil marble tiles can have very limited veining or variations (which is very expensive) or have distinctive veining throughout the tile (which is more cost effective). Property developers or DIY enthusiasts mainly prefer this marble because it has a beautiful color and is available in larger sizes for large areas. They also come in matte or glossy finishes.

2) Nero Marquina Marble: Originally from Italy, these marble mosaics have a black background color with very elegant white veins within the mosaic. The source material is scarce and also very fragile, which translates into a high price for the consumer. This is the choice of professionals and those without budget restrictions.

3) White Carrara Marble: Carrara is a city in Italy and this stone originates from the Carrara region. Typically the tile has a very pure white ground color with limited veining. An important rule of thumb in natural stone is that if the tile has limited variation, the consumer price must be very high. Therefore, inexpensive options for this stone are also available with blackish and grayish veins. Some designers use this product with Nero Marquina marble to create chessboards.

4) Bluestone Marble – Originally from Turkey, this marble tile has a dark blue color with different shades. Additionally, the edges are dropped to give it a rustic look. It can be used with a white marble (mainly Carrara marble or similar) to create a checkerboard effect.

There are many other types of marble tiles available on the market. The important message here is that marble comes with different color options; black, white, brown, cream, blue, gray. Contrasting colors give design professionals unlimited ideas. Even 10mm thick marble tiles are more durable compared to other types of natural or artificial flooring. Therefore, if you decide to choose a marble floor, we guarantee that you will not be disappointed.
