Mobile Landing Pages and Why You Need One Yesterday

As the world of mobile and cellular device technology continues to evolve, you must evolve with it. Whether you believe in evolution or not, you will go extinct if you don’t evolve with the changing times. It seems that survival of the fittest comes into play as well as those internet marketers who have made adaptations to their websites will be the ones to survive as mobile devices will display a web page differently than a normal computer browser.

I’m sure you’ve noticed this before when looking at the same website on different computers between work, school, home, library, etc. If the dimensions are not suitable for your display medium, you may see images that are misaligned or missing at all. Text that should have looked good is messed up or overlapping. The problems go on and on.

If you have Internet access on your mobile device, such as a smartphone, iPad, iPhone, etc., you may have noticed that you can’t see everything you need to when viewing through these smaller devices. Scrolling becomes a mess, and you often can’t navigate as smoothly as you’d like. There must be an easier way.

That way is through “Mobile Landing Pages” which are specifically designed to be smaller in size and have limited information so that they get straight to the point and yet attract new customers to whatever your target is. Maybe an internet marketer wants to give away a free eBook or audio report or interview, they can set up a capture page (also known as a subscription page, landing page, and a few other names) and easily request a name and email address to send the report. The new customer would then receive an email directing them to the correct information, assuming there was an autoresponder set up or a direct link to the product on the next page.

Of course I had to review this to believe it and what else to do but to review some of my own sites to see where I was having trouble. I borrowed my brother-in-law’s iPhone and started tinkering with the domain names of some of my websites and lo and behold, they seemed to have issues with how they looked on these smaller devices.

Some of the things I noticed that would discourage a person from getting what they needed from my site and prevent them from becoming a member of my list include, but are not limited to:

1) Font size is drastically reduced

2) larger view navigation and scroll options were not all appearing on my screen

3) Some of the videos were not mobile friendly and would not load

4) My subscription box was not visible at the top of the fold (this means at the top of what you see and so you shouldn’t have to scroll to find it)

5) my links seemed to get mixed up when two words separated by a space or comma were present.

As you can see, these are all issues that would quickly deter a person from your site. Why spend more time fighting with one site, when you can find another, right? This is exactly what you don’t want to happen, of course. You want them to stay on your site and accept your report, audio, etc.

By having the right settings or options possible in your web design, you will make your customer experience easier. The old KISS saying comes to play here with Keep It Simple Silly (or substitute anything else for the second ‘S’) where you really don’t want to overwhelm the site visitor.

The main goal of an Internet-enabled mobile device is to make things quick and easy so people don’t have to scramble in an effort to find their information. These devices are already limited in size, so you need to adapt if you want to survive these changes. I realize they’re making bigger touchpads, which solves some of the problems, but you don’t see many people walking around with a huge iPad in their back pocket or in line at the grocery store.

If you have advertising in the real world, people are looking for instant gratification to find you on the go so they can experience what you have to offer without struggling with limited dexterity and typing on a smaller touchpad. Any changes you can make to make the customer experience easier will benefit you and your business in the long run as you continue to evolve and lead.
