Eliminate Police Funds? Sticky Rhetoric, But Flawed Solution: 5 Concerns

In large part due to the horrific murder of a Minneapolis police officer, which the world witnessed, due to the power of the internet, many are asking for, what they call, underfunding police! Justified anger and pain, combined with some Rotten apples, Within a variety of different police departments, you’ve largely achieved this mindset, focus, and emphasis! They often point to two examples, where this was done and replaced with a different form of public safety organization, in Compton, California, and Cambden, New Jersey. While systemic racism and incidents in these two small towns, in a relevant way, created these changes, they actually did not. defund them, but, rather, created an alternative approach, to provide public safety. While, in a perfect world, vigilance might not be necessary and residents would band together for the common good and care for one another, unfortunately, reality often differs from this ideal. With that in mind, this article will briefly attempt to consider, examine, review, and discuss 5 concerns that need to be considered and addressed.

1. The crime occurs: Unfortunately, crime is a very real risk, and it happens! There is a significant difference between eliminating and reviewing / changing the way the police act, behave and act. supervised! I’ve heard, well-educated supporters, of taking this step, providing generalities, which sound great, but don’t answer the question, who will protect public safety from criminals, etc.

2. How to protect property and safety ?: I fully support and agree with the anger, frustration and priorities of peaceful protesters and believe that we must take real action and create reforms to ensure the atrocities and criminal behavior of a small percentage of officers are seriously addressed, in the future! At the same time, looters and arsonists should not be considered protesters, but criminals and subject to legal sanctions, etc. In the same way, any individual, policeman, who exceeds his authority, or aggressively handles citizens, or risks their lives (or worse, takes actions that result in loss of life / death). If we defund them, how will property and public safety be protected?

3. Most cops are good: Serving as a police officer is dangerous, often challenging work. Most of these people are dedicated, hard-working, and responsible, and they shouldn’t be. grouped, with the few Rotten apples!

Four. Instead of underfunding we need real police reform, a better plan and a training review, etc.: Real reform is needed to provide a fairer and better security system, one that eliminates the vast majority of systemic racism, which exists all too often today. It takes a comprehensive and well-considered Strategic Plan, and a true Action Plan, to make this difference, for the better! To create the necessary change, we need vision and an evolutionary, relevant and sustainable plan, and viewing, instead of a haphazard, revolutionary, impulse-oriented one, one!

5. What does underfunding does it even mean ?: Marching with signs, articulating songsAnd being justifiably angry doesn’t make this process the best way to proceed! Are we not in need of reforms and a better and fairer system and way of carrying out these essential functions, rather than simply underfunding them?

While it inspires some, does it really make sense? defund the police, instead of thoroughly reforming it? Think about it: would you really want to buy a home in an area that didn’t have a Police Department?
