What is the best way to defeat Handyman in Bioshock Infinite?

In Bioshock Infinite, Handyman plays an integral role as a gatekeeper and his main job is to protect Columbia from any attacks and threats from other people outside of the city. In this game, Handyman is also one of the many villains that will prevent Booker from entering the city of Columbia. Talking about the strength of him, Handyman is a really tough villain who can deal such huge damage to Booker and even beat him to death.

However, even though this big foe possesses great power in his 2 giant hands, in Bioshock Infinite, Handyman showed that he can be defeated if you can combine all of Booker’s strengths, from his big guns and telekinesis powers, and then optimize Skyline usage to stop Handyman from starting to attack you.

In this article, there are some facts about the Handyman that you probably should know. And if you have any kind of problem when you face him in this game, here you will find out how to defeat Handyman and what is the best way to fight him in this game.

Who is Handyman and what is his role at Columbia?

First of all, you need to know who the Handyman really is. In this latest installment of Bioshock Infinite, Handyman is narrated as a really big guy who has his whole body made of steel. So from the general appearance of him, we can see how Handyman resembles a giant robot. However, even though most of his body is made of metal, there are 2 parts to his body that still make him human, his head and his heart.

In fact, these 2 parts are the only genuine human parts that can be found on the Handyman’s body. So despite the robot appearance of him, it’s nice to know that he can still think like a human and has the feeling of a normal human. But then again, despite these 2 human parts still making him a normal person, the Handyman is still a dangerous villain who has been programmed by Comstock to stop and kill Booker whenever they meet in battle.

Handyman appearance in Bioshock Infinite

Handyman has 2 really giant hands. These 2 doll-like hands can create such huge damage to your health bar every time his jab lands on Booker’s face. That’s not so surprising given that the Handyman has a really huge body, plus he’s made of steel. So it’s no wonder that he possesses such great power in his hands.

As shown in this latest Bioshock game, the Handyman first appears when Booker enters the floating city of Columbia. In that part of the game, we get to see Handyman “show off” in front of the people in Columbia on stage, similar to a “Freak Show” stage where weird people gather in one place to show off their weirdness to people.

The good news is that, at that point, Booker, who hasn’t been recognized as “the false shepherd” by the Columbia public, doesn’t need to face Handyman in direct battle just yet. However, the bad news comes when Booker finally has to come face to face with the Handyman in the battle royale after the folks at Columbia learn of the initial “AD” or Anna Dewitt on Booker’s hand.

What is Handyman’s job at Columbia?

In Bioshock Infinite, Comstock gives Handyman a job to protect Columbia along with the people from attacks and threats from the Vox Populi, a group of people who are against “The Founders”, the Columbia government group led by Comstock, and want to change Columbia as a new, better place where all people, including Black and Irish people, can be treated equally without discrimination of race, tribe or anything else.

In addition to protecting Columbia from Vox Populi attacks, Handyman also becomes one of Booker’s enemies, big bosses to be exact. Comstock also tasks Handyman with keeping Booker away from Columbia, and more importantly, from Elizabeth.

What is Handyman’s main strength?

The biggest strength that Handyman possesses in this game is the power to knock down enemies with his 2 giant hands. This is the reason why you as Booker have to keep a long distance whenever you fight Handyman in battle because if he manages to land his jab on Booker’s face, most of the time his giant hands can deal heavy damage to your health bar.

The Handyman’s other strength is his ability to hack into the Skyline and deliver an electrical shock to this track. Well, the Skyline is the roller coaster that stretches across the sky of Columbia. This Skyline is primarily used for carrying loads, while grappling people, including Booker, can also use the Skyline to quickly travel from one location to another without walking.

However, when facing this big villain, you have to be very careful while jumping into the horizon because Handyman is capable of bludgeoning you to death when he turns the horizon into the electrocuted track.

How to defeat Handyman?

There are many ways to defeat Handyman. The most obvious way is definitely by using your big guns like the shotgun or other powerful weapons at your disposal. However, using only big weapons to fight Handyman will not be effective because Handyman is really strong and can quickly recover to attack Booker with his big fat hands. So, before you take on Handyman in person, you must first master Booker’s controls and know how to use all of Booker’s weapons, including Booker’s telekinesis powers.

using the horizon

In addition to relying on your weapons and telekinesis powers for your life, the Skyline can also be very useful in avoiding any Handyman attacks. But you should always be well informed whenever Handyman uses the electric power from him to hack the Skyline. This will turn the Skyline into a huge danger for you, as this electrocuted track will suck up most of your health bar until death. So whenever you see an electrical spark in the Skyline, the best thing to do is to jump far from the horizon and quickly land on the ground or any platform around you.

Use of weapons and telekinesis powers

And as I mentioned earlier, one of the best weapons to kill Handyman with is the shotgun. If you have this weapon at your disposal, you better use it when you take on the Handyman. Aim your target at his heart as this is the most fragile element of his body. Not to mention that even though the damages created by telekinesis powers are not that great for Handyman, this magical power can still be useful to attack Handyman whenever you get a chance to use it.

Elizabeth’s help is always helpful

Not only that, besides using guns, telekinesis powers, and Skyline, you can also enlist the help of Elizabeth to open the tears and bring some valuable items from other realities to Booker’s reality, such as: medics, bullets, armor, walls to defend, and even decoys to distract Handyman from attacking you.

Well, if you can combine all of Booker’s strengths and know when to jump to the horizon to avoid Handyman’s attacks, plus with Elizabeth’s help, then you have a great chance to defeat Handyman in any direct battle with him.
